travel insurance to EEC countries?

Can anyone tell me if there is a travel insurance which im supposed to get from the post office simular to what used to be known as a green card, enabling me to travel to spain or 1 of the other EEC countries. Or have i got to pay for travel insurance and is it illegle not to have any insurance when travelling in Europe. Thanks to all Mac

You can apply for ther new ‘European Health Insurance Card‘ online ( you will need your medical number) The link that the previous answerer has given you is correct, but the card is catually valid for 5 years.

I have to say though, that this only covers you for basic medical insurance…it doesn’t cover you for any losses you might incur, i.e. loss of luggage, money etc….for this, you really should take out a Travel Insurance Policy. Some holiday companies do insist that you have travel insurance, and, for the sake of a few pounds, its well worth it!! Check out travel insurance on;
www.moneysupermarket.co.uk. They provide some policies on here for about a tenner!!
