October 20, 2003 -- Skiers and snowboarders who buy season passes now have the option of insuring them against loss of use due to sudden injury or illness.
Skier Insurance Services (SIS)
offer SKIER GUARD Season Pass Insurance to cross-country skiers and downhill skiers; coverage may be purchased online at 6% of the pass price for the 2003/04 season.Season passes are an economical way for frequent skiers to pay for their sport.
However, most resorts impose restrictions on passes, making them non-refundable and non-transferable.
A passholder who is injured or falls ill can lose much or all of the use of a pass, which is often purchased well in advance of the ski season in order to take advantage of "early bird" pricing.
A skier who buys this insurance and cannot use the pass for at least 30 consecutive days can recoup the value of the unused portion of a season pass on a pro-rata basis."This insurance package has never been available in the USA before" said Ron Iverson, president of SIS.
"Season passes can save skiers a lot of money but if they are not used enough they can turn out to be a poor investment."
This program insures passholders in event of covered injury or illness. In addition, Emergency Evacuation Insurance up to $15,000 and Accidental Death/Dismemberment Insurance up to $10,000 is provided while skiing at the ski area which issues the season pass. The insurance is available for season passes purchased from any ski area in the USA except those in New York and Oregon, where regulatory approval is pending.
Ski areas can promote the plan by adding a link to their web sites which directs skiers to a site containing complete details and enrollment options.
Passholders can also visit the site directly at www.skierguard.comSki areas promote our program because it is beneficial for them as well as for their customers. In fact, it may even help to increase the sale of season passes because Loss of Use coverage is provided up to two months before the ski season starts ...
reassuring for anyone who buys a season pass in advance.
The following resorts promote SKIER GUARD: Aspen Skiing Company, Diamond Peak, Eldora Mountain Resort, Heavenly, Mammoth Mountain, and Mountain Creek; many other ski areas plan to participate starting next Spring.SIS is a division of Tourist Insurance Services, a leading provider of vacation insurance to the travel and resort industries.
Coverage is underwritten by National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, Pa. with its principal place of business in New York, NY.
It is a member company of American International Group, Inc.
Skier Insurance Services (SIS) is the program administrator. This is a brief description of the coverages available.
Policies will contain reductions, limitations, exclusions, and termination provisions.
Coverage is not available in FL, MD, NY, OR, NC, SC or TX at this time.

How to save money by having insurance companies fight over getting your business.
Many of the insurance quoting companies on the web can save the average person money. They do this by rating your risk (even if your high risk) and using the information you fill out when you go to their site. Their computer system routes your information to several insurance companies who all know they are competing to get your business.
Insurance companies and insurance quoting services are spending serious money with the major search engines to try and get your business. The amount they spend each year would surprise you.
The last time I checked it was about $5.00 per click on the largest search engines.
So if you are tired of spending big bucks on say auto insurance it pays to go to one or two of the insurance quoting services on the web. It takes a few minutes to fill out the forms for most people.
There are about 5-10 well known companies on the web that provide quotes that operate just the way I described.
So...

A Moving Experience
I've found a cool apartment! Okay, okay?so it's not perfect. Just a few bugs. I mean literally! First expense? An exterminator! Is it worth the cash? Well, I can't afford a more expensive place, so a one-time (please!) cash outlay should be okay. Maybe just a can of "Raid?"I need a way to move my stuff. Daddy, can I borrow your truck? You don't have one? Why not? Do you want one? I'll help you pick it out! Well, it was just a suggestion.
No need to get all bent out of shape! I guess I'd better call the truck rental places. What do you mean?$200?PLUS mileage? AND Gas? Good grief! While I'm on the phone I'll call the utility and phone companies. Yes, I know I haven't used your services before. No, I don't have a credit card; this is my first place. You want what? A $100 deposit? For EACH? Holy cow?do you people have a license to steal? Daddy, I need $500 for moving expenses! I used all my money for the first and last months rent AND the damage deposit.
Well, how was I to know...

A Different Light Shed on the Insurance Industry
There's a relatively unknown market in the insurance industry that consumers need to know about.
This is a market where a single agent can offer you multiple choices from multiple companies.
This is the independent insurance agency market. When you have an independent agent (IA) who you know and trust, you shouldn't have to find a new agent again.
As an IA you have the ability to "shop" a customer with numerous insurance companies, finding them the best rate and coverage, so they don't have to.
Imagine what happens the next time the renewal comes on your insurance and the premium is suddenly $500 higher than it was before.
With an IA, all you need to do is call.
They have the ability to try and find a similar policy with another company; you haven't changed agents, given personal information to strangers, or gone through the monotonous task of shopping your insurance.
Instead, you left it to an expert.Depending on the size...
